9 Deleted Scenes That Totally Change How You View Famous Characters
7. Woody Shows His True Colours - Toy Story
The Deleted Scene: As you'd expect, things in Toy Story hit their lowest ebb at the end of the second act, with Woody trapped in an upturned crate and a now self-aware Buzz strapped to The Big One, ready to be blown sky-high in a couple of hours. Just before the pair try to escape, the cowboy finally loses it, diving into a tirade against the down-beat space ranger, angrily blaming him for the current situation.
How It Changes The Character: The original version of Toy Story was a world away from the finished film, with Woody less someone forced to face changing times and more a bullish !*$% who repeatedly abuses Buzz just because he's new. This was changed when Pixar realised that even with the voice of Tom Hanks those traits can't be excused, but clearly some elements of the nasty, vindictive Woody almost made it into the finished film.
The Woody who pins all the blame on Buzz and struggles to accept his own problems in this scene is very much in line with that snarky early version. Sure, given the circumstance it's understandable he'd not keep calm, but it sees him going deeper and angrier than at any other point in the series; unlike in later movies, he's been totally self-serving.
