9 Distractingly Bad Performances In Otherwise Great Movies

2. Saw: Cary Elwes And Leigh Whannell - Dr Lawrence Gordon And Adam Stanheight

Django Unchained Quentin Tarantino
Lionsgate

The original Saw film is a very impressive low-budget horror film which is so intense, clever and thrilling that you overlook a colossal flaw: it's led by two terrible performances.

As two men stuck inside one of Jigsaw's terrifying games, Cary Elwes and writer-producer Leigh Whannell are both pretty lackluster. Despite his talent as a writer, director and producer, Whannell gave a very annoying and unconvincing performance as Adam, while Cary Elwes' flat performance and terrible attempt at an American accent was similarly jarring.

Unfortunately, Elwes' acting (and accent) had not improved when he returned for Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. If he ever does return to the series (and, with the franchise now up and running again, it's likely that he will) hopefully he'll give a better performance and finally do a convincing American accent.
