9 Famous Film Directors Who Have Lost Their Touch (That We All Pretend Are Still Awesome)

7. Kevin Smith

Remember when Kevin Smith would actually make movies, rather than get high and talk about all of the movies he wanted to make? Over the years the man has let his imagination run wild, picking up project after project and trying his hand at a variety of different things. He's one of the most prolific and successful podcasters of all time, occasionally writes comics for DC and Marvel (as well as comics based on his own films), and even owns his own comic book store, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash (which has its own show on AMC). Needless to say, the man is busy, and it's easy to forgive him from making less films as his career goes on. The sad thing is, they get worse as they get less frequent. He's had modest successes in recent years, but nothing comes close to his early films like Clerks and Chasing Amy. Yet, we can't help getting excited when he announces a new project (something he seems to do more frequently than actual filming those new projects), perhaps because of his contagious enthusiasm.
