9 Famous Films Which Were Plagued By Ugly Lawsuits
3. Lovelace (2013)
Biography about Deep Throat porn star Linda Lovelace - perhaps the most famous porn star ever, Lovelace focuses upon Linda's tempestuous private life with her manager/husband Chuck Traynor ill treating her and her subsequent quest for redemption after leaving the porn industry. Legal problems hit the film when Arrow Productions brought a $10,000,000 suit against Millennium films for copyright infringement - they claimed 5 minutes of footage belonged to them - Arrow Films holds the right to Deep Throat, and they also claimed that the use of the name Lovelace was another copyright infringement. They tried to get the film's opening postponed, but a court ordered that it should go ahead and be released. This was a victory for freedom of artistic expression in the face of a jealous production company who wanted to keep Lovelace's image as a sexpot star in order to keep selling copies of Deep Throat. The film Lovelace shows the ugly side of Lovelace's life and how she regretted being a porn star. She was a much manipulated and complex character. Lovelace is a valid exploration of her life.
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
