9 Famous Pieces Of Movie Trivia Everybody Believes (That Are Totally Wrong)

7. Darth Vader Was Always Meant To Be Luke's Dad

That George Lucas can be a real card. If he’s to be believed he had the entire Star Wars saga mapped out before filming the original, including all the twists and turns. However, it doesn’t matter how much he tells you Greedo was always meant to shoot first, or that he had twelve instalments planned in his head; we know he didn't.

Perhaps the biggest revision is his claim that Darth Vader was Luke’s father from the beginning, but in fact, this wasn’t the case until a later draft of The Empire Strikes Back. The script originally featured Luke’s father appearing as a Jedi ghost to train Luke, and while Luke did duel with Vader at the end, there were no revelations about his true identity.

This twist was added late in the day, and while it was an inspired touch it’s a little dishonest of Lucas to suggest it was always planned that way.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
