Arriving July 12, 2019

The first of four true-to-life movies included on this list. The Theory of Everything stories the life of world-renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, portrayed by Eddie Redmayne. The biographical drama gives an inside look at his relationship with Jane Wilde (portrayed by Felicity Jones), what happened when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease) and his grappling’s with physics.

Eddie Redmayne won the 2015 Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Hawking. He also won the BAFTA Awards’ equivalent, where the movie took home Best British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Rotten Tomatoes has it on 79% (from 193 reviews) with an audience score of 84%, and the film holds 7.7 on IMDB.

Although the film features one of the greatest minds in history, the focus really is on relationships so don’t expect to be too scientifically stimulated. Also, as with all biographical films, you can expect a few historical inaccuracies.
