9 Films To Watch On Netflix UK In July (And 1 To Avoid)

3. Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids Airplane Kirsten Wiig
Universal Pictures

Arrived on July 1, 2019

Another story about friendships although this one deals with somewhat lighter subject matter. Annie (Kristen Wiig) is named maid of honour for her best friend’s wedding, but trouble and hilarity ensue when she becomes embroiled in a rivalry with fellow bridesmaid Helen (Rose Byrne). The film features a strong comedic cast which also includes Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper and Chris O'Dowd.

This was the first film by Apatow Productions (founded by Judd Apatow) to focus specifically on women. The result was a hugely successful box office hit which financially surpassed previous Apatow movies including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad.

Melissa McCarthy was nominated for best Supporting Actress at the 2011 Academy Awards for her role in the film, with Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo receiving a nomination for their writing on it. Bridesmaids has 90% on Rotten Tomatoes (from 284 reviews), 75 on Metacritic and 6.8 on IMDB.

Really wants to talk about terrible comedies and pro wrestling.
