9 Great MCU Characters Who'll Never Get A Solo Movie
4. Hawkeye
Hawkeye didn’t get off to a great start in the MCU. His cameo in Thor was pointless, and he spent a good chunk of The Avengers in a zombie trance. Thankfully he had more to do in Age Of Ultron and Civil War, and we learned he was more than a moody bloke with a bow and arrow.
Unfortunately, Jeremy Renner has always proved to be the bridesmaid when it comes to leading a big franchise. He was tipped to take over the Mission: Impossible series until Cruise proved he was going nowhere. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was a surprise hit, but it didn’t turn into a franchise, and Matt Damon has returned to reclaim the Bourne series from him.
So Renner’s lack of leading man appeal – combined with the fact Hawkeye works best as a supporting player – makes the character a poor candidate for a solo adventure.
