6. Space Camp

Space Camp was an unrealistic story about a group of kids attending space camp that accidentally get shot into space and have to return safely using the skills they had learned that summer at, you guessed it, space camp. Those kooky NASA technicians always leave the keys in the ignition! This was a great camp movie for the period because of the obsession America has with space at the time, but doesn't exactly hold up as well as some of the other movies on this list. That said, Space Camp did something that as yet to be replicated - it made us want to go to space camp. For a brief period of time we all wanted to go there and eat astronaut ice cream while feeling what it was like to be weightless. More importantly, I still want a pet robot even though the technology is put to shame by a first generation iPhone. From what I hear, space camp is a far cry from the place portrayed in the film, this movie briefly made being smart cool, and in that way it was ahead of its time.
