9 Harsh Truths DC Need To Face About Their Upcoming Movies

5. There's Already A Jarring Lack Of Aesthetic Continuity Between The Movies

To date, we've seen footage from three movies in the DC Cinematic Universe canon, none of which "feel" like they're set in the same world. At all. Man of Steel feels entirely disconnected from Batman v Superman, almost as if the studio mounted the former without knowing that they were headed towards the latter (oh, wait: that's almost certainly the case). Then there's Suicide Squad, which purports to be set in the same reality as both of these movies, but feels like an entirely separate entity with its own aesthetic palette that doesn't gel with any of the movies that it's set to follow on from. Granted, two of the three aforementioned films are yet to be released, so there's still a chance they could emerge feeling like a cinematic whole. But really the footage glimpsed thus tells us everything that we need to know; unlike the films in the MCU, which all feel like they've been cut from the same cloth, the DC movies have a hair-brained, scattershot tone to them, making it difficult to envision them as interconnected pictures. There doesn't appear to be anyone at the studio overseeing the continuity aspects of the cinematic universe - a Kevin Feige figure, if you will - which could result in a horribly messy canon. It's better that DC address this harsh reality sooner rather than later, then.
