9 Heroic Cats That Saved The Day In Horror Movies
6. The Black Cat - The Black Cat (1941)
Loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story, this film begins by introducing wealthy and eccentric Henrietta Winslow, as well as her greedy family. They have all gathered at her mansion anticipating the old woman's death; however, Henrietta is in strong health and has only summoned them to reveal that her cats will receive most of her enviable fortune. When Henrietta is later found dead, the plot thickens while a black cat watches with suspicion.
One of the guests did it for sure, but which one? Take your pick: we have a niece and an uncle, a daughter and a son, a housekeeper and a friend of the family. This is a surprisingly well-paced and clever film, finished with sprinkles of dark humor and twisted expectations.
After all, if your movie is based on one of the most widely-known horror stories in literature, you must tamper with the formula a little bit. We won't ruin the twist here, in case you want to watch it. Suffice to say that the black cat, unwelcome at first, somehow turns out to be the avenger of Henrietta Winslow's death.
