9 Highly Anticipated Comic Book Movies Being Released In 2018

Just like the title suggests, it seems the X-Men hope to rise from the ashes of their failed sequels, with the release of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Set to take place in the 90’s, Dark Phoenix would tell the story of Jean Grey’s possession by the Phoenix force and the ensuing events that come about because of it. While the force itself gives Jean unimaginable power, it makes her actions erratic and threatens to destroy Xavier’s team.

Sophie Turner will play a bigger role as Jean Grey, while James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are slated to return as Professor X, and Magneto respectfully. Filling out the team will be the returning cast of Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and Evan Peter’s as mischievous speedster Quicksilver.

Oddly enough, while Phoenix may have been created with the goal of restarting the franchise, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the X-Men would be involved in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe moving forward, possibly making X-Men: Dark Phoenix the final X-Men film produced by Fox.

Hopefully, Phoenix swings for the fences and ties a bow on this exciting but flawed franchise.
