9 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Indiana Jones

3. Everything Indy Does In Raiders Of The Lost Ark

We've established that Indy may not be the most morally righteous dude when it comes to his job. Okay, let's face it: he's less an archaeologist and more a glorified grave robber. We also know that while Indy is fascinated by history, one of his many ulterior motives for treasure hunting is the notoriety and fast, foreign women. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy is tasked with finding The Ark of the Covenant by the United States government. Jones accepts not because it is his civic duty, but because it will make him a household name and earn him silly amounts of money. Of course the Nazis are after it as well, resulting in countless car chase sequences, fisticuffs, and one instance of monkey poisoning. Fast forward to the end of the film and we have Indy and Marion held captive by the Nazis as the bad guys open the Ark in the middle of a desert. As the Nazis remove the lid, Indy tells Marion to shut her eyes, a good call since everyone gazing at the Ark is promptly dispatched in increasingly gruesome ways. Now this begs the question, if Indy was aware of what would happen when the Ark was opened, why did he bother chasing it after he was foiled by the Nazis in Egypt and trapped in the Well Of Souls? We know its not exactly his style, but Indy could've have just followed Belloq and the Nazis, waited for them to all be killed by the Ark and casually waltzed in to claim the relic. There's even a chance that the Nazis would have brought the Ark back to the Nazi high command, effectively melting all of their faces off and preventing WWII. Sure, the exotic locales and impressive action sequences keep viewers on the edge of their seats, but the climax of the film leaves us to question everything that precedes it.
