With the Shape back in the fold after being absent for Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the fourth Halloween movie stands as one of the better outings for the franchise.

Sure, things would soon go off a cliff with the next two movies, but Halloween 4 was a genuinely good film. And at that movie's close, audiences were given a truly jarring visual.

The Return of Michael Myers has the titular Michael stalking his young niece, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris). As Donald Pleasence's beloved Sam Loomis and Jamie's foster sister Rachel (Ellie Cornell) try to protect the kiddo, we eerily see Jamie start to show glimpses of her uncle's behaviour - including wearing the same style outfit adorned by Michael in the opening moments of John Carpenter's Halloween.

During the final act of Halloween 4, the Shape is shot and falls down a mineshaft to his apparent death. But in the film's real kicker, we get the closing shot of a bloodied Jamie having bludgeoned her foster mother, as Loomis shrieks in terror.

The child had been corrupted by her uncle. Michael had won. The evil had spread.

Only that jaw-dropping finale was swept under the carpet as Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers opens up with a mute Jamie joining Loomis in battling Michael rather than being at her uncle's side.
