9 Horror Movie Villains We ALL Foolishly Thought Had WON

4. Jill Roberts - Scream 4

Halloween Kills Michael Myers
Dimension Films

As a property, Scream is one that's forever pulling the rug from under its audience - all while managing to be terrifying and mocking the overplayed tropes of horror.

Sure, there were times when Billy Loomis, Stu Macher, Mrs. Loomis, Mickey Altieri (well, maybe not Mickey...) and Roman Bridger all looked like they had victory in the bag, but many really did think Emma Roberts' Jill in Scream 4 was going to get away with her crimes.

Of course, Jill was the cousin of Sidney Prescott, and one of Scream 4's two killers alongside Rory Culkin's Charlie. Once Jill had stabbed Sidney, killed Charlie, pinned the film's murders on Charlie and BFF Trevor, and got a hero's reception as a sole survivor, it looked as if this villain had done the unthinkable.

You have to remember, it was rumoured that all three franchise leads - Sidney, Gale and Dewey - may end up killed off in Scream 4. So, when Jill survived, it was plausible that the franchise was going in a different direction.

Instead, a borderline comedic 'final battle' would take place in the local hospital that ended with Sid taking down her cousin with a defibrillator before fatally shooting her.
