9 Horror Movie Villains We ALL Foolishly Thought Had WON

3. Umbrella - Resident Evil

While it took gamers aback that Paul W.S. Anderson's first Resident Evil movie wasn't the tale of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and co. we'd hoped for, that 2002 picture was still a whole lot of fun.

Granted, the movie franchise spawned by that first film has major problems dotted throughout it, but as a sci-fi action horror movie, the initial Resident Evil offering ticked plenty of the right boxes.

What that film also did, though, is it ended with the feeling that the evil Umbrella Corporation had won out and the tease that Eric Mabius' Matt Addison was destined for a life as Nemesis.

That ending had the infected Addison swept away by Umbrella as part of the "Nemesis Program". Long-time IP fans were well aware that meant Matt would become the infamous Nemesis creature that took centre-stage in the Resident Evil 3 video game.

Matt would indeed become Nemesis by the time of follow-up Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and it looked like the villains of the piece had won out here. That is, of course, until Apocalypse's finale saw Nemesis turn babyface (hey, wrestling fans!) and assist Milla Jovovich's Alice.

At the end of Resident Evil, we thought Umbrella had 'won' by mutating Matt Addison into Nemesis, yet RE: Apocalypse ending up having ol' Nemi come back to bite Umbrella on the backside.
