Richard Dreyfuss didn't even consider the idea of appearing in Jaws 2, since it’s well documented the original was a nightmare to work on. He clearly has a lot of love for Jaws though, which can be seen in just about every interview he’s ever given.

When he was asked to make a cameo in Piranha 3D he originally turned it down, since he felt he’d be making fun of his career. After he was offered quite a large cheque, he reconsidered. While his character is named Matt Boyd officially, Dreyfuss admitted he’s really playing an older version of Hooper from Jaws.

In the movie he’s dressed almost identically, he drunkenly sings “Show Me the Way to Go Home” and he casually quotes line from Jaws. The fact Hooper survived the shark but doesn’t survive the piranhas is obviously a meta gag, but some fans might be a little disturbed watching a beloved character get brutally ripped to shreds.

Oh well: he should have had a bigger boat.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
