9 Implications Of Disney Potentially Buying Fox
6. A Disney-Branded Netflix Killer
Netflix is top dog in the video streaming world, but there's a certain mouse that's on the verge of staking its own claim for this position.
Disney is launching an on-demand platform of its own in 2019 and with its catalogue plus Fox's hottest movie and TV properties on its side, the firm will be in good stead to challenge Netflix for market dominance.
The House of Mouse has already confirmed that it will eventually pull its films and the Marvel movies from Netflix in favour of bringing it to its own-brand platforms, and that alone will be enough incentive for some fans to switch.
The Star Wars saga will also find a home on the platform, while securing a deal with Fox will add the X-Men movies, their spinoff TV shows and long-running animated series like The Simpsons to the equation.
Disney's streaming service will boast an impressive catalogue as things stand, but with Fox properties like Die Hard, Alien, Planet of the Apes and Avatar joining its stable, Netflix will need to up its game to stay competitive.
