9 Incredible Movie Scenes Let Down By Awful Acting
5. Se7en - John Doe Explains Himself
*DISCLAIMER: Kevin Spacey is an irredeemable and awful person, and in no way does praise for his acting abilities excuse him as a person*
Even though his screen-time in Se7en is limited, Kevin's presence is long-awaited as Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman traipse a rainy city in search of him.
On the drive to the last two victims in John Doe's master plan, the detectives take the opportunity to quiz him on his motives and methodology.
Kevin does well transitioning from virtuous and intelligent, into a cracking and hateful man disgusted at the world. It might be the best scene in the film.
However Brad Pitt, god bless him, isn't on point in this scene. With Morgan Freeman playing the methodical questioner, Brad Pitt stays too true to his character as the hotheaded reactor who snipes back at John Doe like a snide teenager.
It's frustrating because Brad Pitt clearly didn't know what to convey in this scene. Knowing Kevin got the best lines and all he could do was react and push back would be hard to translate off the page.
Thankfully Brad Pitt has gotten better over the years, and had he returned to this scene he might have played it off differently.
