9 Incredible Pieces Of Concept Art From Cancelled Superhero Films

5. Dr. Manhattan On Mars (Paul Greengrass's Watchmen)

Between Terry Gilliam's ill-fated attempt to bring Watchmen to Hollywood, and Zack Snyder's successful one, there was the Paul Greengrass version.

Fresh off the back of directing The Bourne Supremacy, Greengrass had bold plans to update the story told in the seminal graphic novel and set it against a modern backdrop.

The filmmaker's vision for Watchmen was close to taking shape, with the studio hiring production designer Dominic Watkins to draw up concept artwork from the project, some of which has since appeared online.

One of the most striking sketches sees Watkins reimagine a scene fans of the graphic novel and Snyder movie will know well: Doctor Manhattan's exile on Mars. The stylised image doesn't appear radically different to the scene that wound up in the movie, though it's clear it takes place in a more high-tech world.
