9 Insane Characters You Won't Believe Almost Ended Up In Famous Movies

4. One Of Snow White's Seven Dwarfs Nearly Ended Up Being Called "Deafy" & Couldn't Hear A Thing

Back in the 1930s, when people didn't really care all that much about being offensive or insulting specific groups of people for the sake of a cheap laugh, Walt Disney set himself upon the task of adapting the classic fairytale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" as an animated feature film. In doing so, he gave the previously nameless dwarf hilarious nicknames that weren't part of the original story - names like "Dopey" and "Bashful" and "Happy" and... "Deafy?" Okay, so Deafy didn't end up in the final version of the movie, but he so very, very nearly did. Like all the dwarfs, who have names corresponding with their personalities, "Deafy" (sometimes written as "Deefy") would have had a personality that basically revolved around the idea that he couldn't hear anything. Ha! Would you believe it? Fortunately, Disney realised - like other dwarf characters he'd considered, such a "Burpy" and (yes) "Thrifty" - that what he had conjured up was kind of mental and a bit insensitive. Deafy, our favourite hard of hearing dwarf, was thrown out, making room for other, less-offensive dwarf characters, like, uh, Dopey?
