9 Insane Characters You Won't Believe Almost Ended Up In Famous Movies

2. James Cameron Was Almost Forced Into Giving Kyle Reese A Robot Dog Sidekick In The Terminator

James Cameron is, above all, an innovator. But whereas so many of his ideas have changed and transformed the boundaries of cinema, this one is just plain naff. Robot dog sidekick? Come on, James, surely you're better than that? Well, apparently, yes, he was... because this idea wasn't even his. When production on The Terminator began, you see, the studio agreed to let Cameron take the reigns and do his thang, just as long as he adhered to a few points. Nothing major, of course... just make sure that Kyle Reese's character has a DOG ROBOT SIDEKICK. Yes, The Terminator very nearly had a dog sidekick contained within its frames. Think on that for a second: this movie was almost about O.J. Simpson going after a man with a mechanical mutt at his side. Cameron, of course, decided that whoever had proposed the idea of a robot dog had also forgotten to take their medications that day, so he downright refused to include such a ridiculous idea for a character. Had the idea gone through, though, can you imagine the kind of movie we might have been looking at? The most... '80s... movie... imaginable? Totally.
