4. "I Want You To Go Out And Kill" - Summer Of Sam
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THh1pPWEoWs Summer of Sam is a Spike Lee drama based around a real-life serial killer who claimed he was "possessed" by demons and went on a kill crazy rampage. The convicted, David Berkowitz, murdered six people, and apparently blamed his neighbour's dog for instructing him to do so. Nuts, right? I mean, a possessed dog harbouring a demon, that's crazy, isn't it? And it's also the kind of thing that, faced with a movie adaptation, you'd cut out completely, or, like, ignore. But apparently Spike Lee forgot to take his normal pills whilst working out how best to explore this canine-based section of the story, and evoked to include a scene in the otherwise serious drama in which a dog's mouth moves and says words like, "I want you to go out and kill!" I don't know about anybody else, but I can't take this seriously. It's downright bizarre and hammy as hell. And listen to that soundtrack, which plays bombastically over the proceedings like Satan himself is looming outside the door to looking for leftovers. The dog's name is Harvey, by the way. Aw.
