9 Insane Movie Theories That Actually Make Sense
5. Alfred Is Actually Bruce Wayne's Father In The Dark Knight Trilogy
It's a classic origin story, and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy embraces it all the same: after his parents are shot and killed in an alleyway by a random thug, Bruce Wayne grows up to be the crime-fighting vigilante that is Batman.
After his parents' deaths, though, Bruce is raised by his caring butler, Alfred Pennyworth, who - in these films - is played by Michael Caine, a man whose only function in life is to wait hand and foot on Bruce, make knowing quips, and impart advise by way of lengthy anecdotes ("Some men just want to see the world burn..." was one of his best).
Alfred serves as more than just a butler, though: he's essentially Bruce's surrogate father. But what if he was actually Bruce's father? As in, biologically?
According to one particular - and rather popular theory - regarding these movies, that's exactly what he is. The idea behind this particular fan-based notion is that Alfred Pennyworth had an affair with Martha Wayne; Bruce is his real son, so he treats him as such, but never reveals the truth because... well, that would compromise Batman.
It would certainly explain why he's such a great butler. Talk about above and beyond.
