9 Insane Movie Theories That Actually Make Sense

3. Cobb's Totem In Inception Wasn't The Spinning Top; It Was His Wedding Ring

Inception is a movie that sees a very sad Leonardo DiCaprio and a team of trained experts trying to implant an idea in somebody's subconscious via their dreams.

Because of all the hullabaloo involved with dreamscapes and reality, "dream invaders" keep small, personal objects called totems on them so that they can determine whether or not they're asleep or awake. DiCaprio's character - Dom Cobb - uses a spinning top as his totem. If it spins endlessly, he knows he's in a dream. If it falls, then he's awake.

But one popular theory with regards to Christopher Nolan's mind-bending sci-fi movie denotes that actually, the spinning top wasn't Cobb's totem at all: it was actually his wedding ring, which can be glimpsed in every single scene set in the dream world. To back this theory up, the ring is never seen during any scenes set in the real world.

It's not so much a theory as a fully-fledged plot point, but given that it's never been confirmed by Nolan or anyone involved in the movie, it remains a semi-hypothetical.
