9 Jobs In Filmmaking You May Not Have Understood

2. Line Producer

2 The line producer is is one of the toughest but most important people in a films production and one I could never do. They are the holders of money and allocate the resources for a shoot accordingly. If the Executive Producer is the money, the line producer is the money in action. Often responsible for drawing up a budget(s), the line producer will have a an intimate knowledge of what is happening every day of shooting, exactly how much money should be being spent and how much is actually being spent. In some ways , like I likened the producer to the directors gate keeper, the line producer is the producer's. They allow a producer to follow certain paths with an allocated amount of money and are usually the ones who make sure every contract is signed and all the right insurances are covered. As well as being in charge of the money, the line producer will is also often in charge of HR. They will deal with certain employee concerns and requests from departments, including but not limited to money allocation. The Line Producer is an extreme;y technical and complicated job. Maybe typed out, it doesn't sound incredibly appealing but your job is spent dealing with all kinds of people on a daily basis and you are also one of the major lynch pins to a films entire success.
