9 Lame Opening Scenes In Otherwise Great Movies

3. Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Paramount Pictures

The Raiders of the Lost Ark, as a work of cinema, is pretty well near perfect. Indy punches people real good, whips stuff, hates snakes, and falls down a lot. There's very few people who aren't a fan of the film.

But those that are generally are of the same belief - that the film is a bit racist. That's one of the biggest issues people have with the Temple of Doom; it shows a horribly over the top, racist parody of indigenous people. Luckily, Raiders of the Lost Ark concerns itself primarily with a race between Americans and Nazis to find the lost ark of the covenant.

Except for the first scene. It feels like this one scene was expanded into Temple of Doom. It's gory, gruesome, and filled with horribly offensive stereotypes. Spielberg and Lucas (the creators, natch) have said that the inspiration for the film was 40s adventure serials. Maybe they could've dropped the racism?
