9 Marvel Movie Plots That DC Should Totally Rip Off
6. Aquaman - Thor
The Basic Premise: A young ruler is placed in charge of a mythical kingdom. While he tries to assert his might, his duplicitous brother seeks to take the throne for himself and sees the hero banished. The deposed monarch must then find a way back and expose the treachery and claim the throne. How DC Could Make It Better: Thor was fairly weak in terms of a character, having started off arrogant and allegedly learning humility over a weekend stay on Earth. Aquaman could sport a much more engaging arc as somewhat of a twist on this. For example, he could inherit the kingdom as a naive young man only to become hardened and bitter by the end of the film. The world surrounding this character also needs to reflect this shift in tones. Rather than the CGI and fantasy-based castles of Asgard, Atlantis ought to feel more like its occupied by real, ancient structures rooted in a medieval setting. Another mistake would be to overly-involve the surface world. Thors weakest moments were set on Earth, where an entire section of the film felt like it didnt belong. Constrain Aquaman to the seas, where the unique setting and laws make it more interesting anyways. This way, the surface could even be the enemy, perhaps represented by someone like Black Manta.
