9 Moments Which Pissed Off Movie Fans In 2020

Coming into the year 2020, movie fans all over the world were rightfully filled with optimism off the back of a particularly stellar previous 12-months at the cinema.

We'd seen Avengers "Assemble!", Joker given new life, and even witnessed Leonardo DiCaprio wielding a flamethrower. It was truly the best of times. Surely more of this cinematic goodness was on the horizon, right?

Well, not exactly.

With the world abruptly gripped by a global health crisis, studios were forced to change their plans now that audiences largely wouldn't be able to cram themselves into screens to watch the latest MCU or James Bond offering. So, a jam-packed summer quickly turned into a desolate movie wasteland, occupied only by classics from the past and the odd new release from filmmakers desperate to keep the industry alive.

If that wasn't enough, fans have also had to endure tentpole features, designed for the big screen now being offered up for a hefty fee on streaming platforms, bored artists cutting their favourite films to shreds and the usual stream of casting decisions that nobody can agree on.

Yes, 2020 has been a crappy year all round. But at least it's nearly over, eh?

When it came to this year's unexpected High School Musical reunion (via Zoom) fans of the series simply couldn't wait to see the gang "all in this together" once again.

Yet those dreams of seeing the entire cast all singing along together were soon crushed early on when easily the biggest name attached to the franchise was restricted to just a quick, blurry introduction clip.

Zac Efron (or Troy Bolton to HSM hardcores) didn't sing a single note in this reuniting of the cast, which boasted names like Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel. Why? Well, according to his co-star Monique Coleman, Efron was in the midst of recording his show Killing Zac Efron in Papua New Guinea, so was likely suffering from an awful WiFi connection that would've made singing along with the rest of the gang quite tough.

Still, some fans clearly felt cheated by Efron's brief appearance, with a number voicing their outrage on Twitter in the aftermath.

Efron famously didn't sing during the first HSM (Drew Seeley's voice was used instead), but later did hold a tune in both of the sequels.

Will we ever see Efron get his head back in the HSM game? Maybe next year...
