7. Tenet Making Our Ears Bleed

Christopher Nolan was absolutely hell bent on being the director who single-handedly saved a flailing film industry (suffering due to the global health crisis) with his highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Tenet. So, it's just a shame that he also seemed determined to murder the audience's ear-drums when they finally cautiously stepped back into "new normal" cinemas.

In trying to thoroughly submerge those watching this time-travelling mind-melter, in the world he'd masterfully created on screen, the director consistently drowned out vocal exchanges between the likes of The Protagonist and Neil. There were even moments when the entire experience felt deeply overwhelming due to the sheer volume of noise being pumped through surrounding speakers.

Now Nolan has proven time and again that he does nothing by accident, so much of this unsettling sound was likely mixed into Tenet to add further weight to some of the more chaotic and confusing set-pieces we see play out (and un-play out) before our very eyes.

Some therefore applauded this inspired choice from the Dark Knight trilogy creator, whereas others felt this was simply an all out assault on dialogue and their ability to actually, you know, hear things.
