9 More Actors Who Begged For Their Movie Characters To Die

4. Will Smith - Independence Day Resurgence

When it came time to shoot a belated sequel to 1996’s dumb fun alien invasion disaster flick Independence Day (it could be argued that the time never came and the film was an ill-considered cash grab, but that’s an article for another day), it’s pretty understandable that the first film’s star Will Smith petitioned to have his cocky fighter pilot hero offed offscreen before proceedings got underway.

You see, according to 2012 helmer Roland Emmerich, the Fresh Prince star was still reeling from the commercial and critical catastrophe that was him and son Jaden Smith’s laughably bad sci-fi adventure collaboration After Earth, a then-recent flop from Signs director/ artistic quality dice roll M Night Shyamalan. As a result, the actor hoped to avoid another big budget father son story and thus avoided involvement in a second huge flop.

Now where was this Will when they shot Winter’s Tale, Gemini Man, Collateral Beauty…
