Captain America: Civil War: 9 Most Compelling Pieces Of Evidence That Proves Iron Man Will Die

8. It Fits Marvel's Approach To Comic Adaptation

So yeah, in the comics the Civil War event ends with Captain America surrendering when he realises the collateral destruction being caused by the conflict, leading to his death. But, based on how the comics have been pilfered so far, that's far from insurance it'll happen. Marvel has played quite free and loose with comic adaptation across its films, adjusting arcs to fit within the world they've set-up, and nowhere is this best seen with Iron Man; Tony Stark's character was greatly altered by Downey, Jr.'s casting, Jarvis became J.A.R.V.I.S., J.A.R.V.I.S. became Vision and, of course, The Mandarin was revealed to be a meticulously-researched ruse by a one-shot character. What's important with all of these is that it all has a purpose - they're there to create a better film that fits within the established continuity or, in the extreme cases, they like to subvert. Tony dying (and possibly losing the war) fits right into this line of thinking, maintaining Iron Man as the most irreverent Marvel series and upending fan expectation while still sticking to the broad ideas in print.
