3. That Spider-Man Cameo Is A Very Shaky Rumour
If we're talking about upcoming movies, then there is one key rumour that needs to be addressed; Iron Man allegedly plays a part in next year's Spider-Man standalone. That should suggest he's going to live beyond Civil War, right? Well, maybe, although the veracity of this story is questionable. It comes from a single source from the Sony side of things immediately following the announcement of Spider-Man entering the MCU fold that calls the reboot The Spectacular Spider-Man and names Drew Goddard as director. There's a lot suspect there; films are likely to change two years out (as is clearly the case here with the Spectacular title and Goddard no longer a part of the film) and it's highly unlikely a Sony insider wouldn't have a working knowledge of everything going on at a different studio. That's not to say it should be discounted, just that it's hardly proof. All too often early-on rumours get taken as fact easily, leading to some iffy conversations after they're proven wrong (recent years have seen erronious claims that DC movies have a no joke rule and Lor San Tekka raised Rey). It's highly probable that Spider-Man 2017 will deal with Peter Parker's attempts to join The Avengers following Civil War (it's even been rumoured to be subtitled The New Avenger), but he doesn't really need Tony Stark to do that; in fact, with Iron Man sitting on the sidelines as Cap leads, it may even be a bit of a logic leap to have him turn up.
