When Kill Bill came out a lot of people were wondering why Tarantino choose to make O-Ren’s origin story animated. A simple look at the sequence should make this clear; if it was live action, the film would have easily been an NC-17. Or banned.

Her origin is drenched in gore from the beginning, which shows the young O-Ren watching her parents being murdered by a sadistic gangster. She later seeks her revenge against him in a rather nasty way, by plunging a sword deep into his gut and slowly twisting it.

The pressure is so intense he cracks his teeth, and when she finally releases her sword a geyser of blood and guts coat the room. Apparently the animated scene took a full year to complete, so you have to admire the level of detail that went into each drop of spilt blood.
