9 Most Undeserved Movie Plot Twists
8. Perfect Stranger: A Flashback Out Of Nowhere
Halle Berry-fronted thriller Perfect Stranger breaks every rule in the book on movie twists. Any filmmaker worth their salt knows they should be foreshadowed with subtle clues for eagle-eyed viewers to spot, but this one comes out of nowhere.
Berry plays a plucky reporter who's hellbent on proving a rich advertising executive played by Bruce Willis murdered her best friend. It's a vanilla thriller throughout, until the final act when an outrageous twist changes everything.
A third-act flashback turns the movie on its head right at the end, revealing that Berry's character was the murderer the whole time, driven to commit this terrible act by a traumatic childhood in which her abusive father was killed by her mother.
Curveballs like this are fine, as long as they make sense in the context of the story, but in Perfect Stranger there are zero clues that Berry might be the killer and no references to her troubled past. It simply doesn't work.
