9 Most Undeserved Movie Plot Twists
1. Seven Pounds: Ben's Organ Donation
Seven Pounds opens with Will Smith's Ben Thomas dialling 911 to report his own suicide before hitting the viewer with a series of flashbacks outlining the events preceding his death. It establishes how Ben wants to help seven people of his choosing, but the how and why of the situation is kept under wraps until the end.
One twist later and it turns out the protagonist was responsible for a car crash that caused the death of his wife along with six other innocent people, and to atone for that, he's made it his mission to find seven thoroughly decent people in need of transplants so he can off himself and ensure his organs go to them.
This is a plot point that doesn't hold up under scrutiny because a modicum of research into medical policies would have told the screenwriters that organ donation doesn't work that way. In most cases, the donor doesn't get to choose who inherits his organs after death, especially if it's seven people he's just met.
There is a strict waiting list system in place for a reason, and the contents of one man's will wouldn't have changed that.
