9 Movie Franchises That Awkwardly Continued When Their Stars Bailed

1. Son of the Mask (2005)

son of the mask There is no real way to describe the filmic devastation that is Son of the Mask. From a marketing perspective alone, this belated, totally unwarranted sequel makes no sense - people liked the original Mask movie, of course, but was anybody really waiting with baited breath for a follow-up? I sincerely doubt it. So what we got was a movie that decided to exist under the guise that it had something to with the first installment. It really didn't. I mean, how was it supposed to without Jim Carrey around? The first movie worked because it hinged entirely on Jim Carrey's persona: the fact that he's replaced here with Jamie Kennedy - who you kind of have to feel sorry for, given that he's only been cast here to do his best Jim Carrey impression - means that the sequel might as well not even exist. Which was proved by how very little money this unfunny abomination made upon release. Like this list? Got any more to add? Let us know in the comments section below.
