9 Movie Franchises That Literally Do The Same Thing Repeatedly
5. Indiana Jones And The Karmically Killed Villain
Indiana Jones, despite ostensibly being a family friendly hero, has no problem dispatching unnamed goons in some pretty gruesome ways at times. He's thrown men under tank tracks, lured them into the paths of aeroplane propellers, burned them to death and pushed them into rock-crushing machines. Jones spares no man in his quest to find, and invariably fail to acquire, lost artefacts with power far beyond human comprehension. That is until it comes to the big name villain in each film, whom Jones leaves to the hands of fate.
This is first seen in Raiders Of The Lost Ark, when he and Marion Ravenwood are captured by René Belloq and his Nazi collaborators. Having gained possession of the Ark of the Covenant, they open it...only for it to exact an agonising, face-melting wrath upon them. Later, in Temple Of Doom, he allows cult leader Mola Ram to take hold of the red hot Sankara Stones and fall anti-climactically to his death. Upon finding the location of the Holy Grail in The Last Crusade, Jones watches with a mixture of horror and presumably relief as Nazi industrialist Walter Donovan drinks from the wrong cup, briefly turns into Christopher Lloyd, then ages and falls away to dust.
Something similar presumably happens in the 4th film but honestly, no one cares.
