9 Movie Franchises That Literally Do The Same Thing Repeatedly

1. T-Rex Saves The Day - Jurassic Park

Bond Villain Scars
Universal Pictures

We all remember the climactic dinosaur battle from 1993's Jurassic Park. After the Tyrannosaurus Rex breaks free of its paddock and terrorises the protagonists, Alan Grant and the gang finally evade it - only to be hunted down by velociraptors. With the characters cornered and surely on the brink of being devoured, the T-Rex once again appears and kills the raptors, allowing the protagonists to escape the fallen park. This iconic moment of accidental heroism from the tyrant lizard resulted in cheers from the audience, and a big fat ending beat for the writers to reuse for every single sequel.

1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park sees an escaped T-Rex wreaking havoc in San Diego. Luckily, Ian Malcolm is able to use an infant T-Rex as bait to lure its rampaging parent back to containment, just in time for them both to devour the film's antagonist. Part way through Jurassic Park 3, interestingly directed by my namesake, the stranded protagonists are once again only able to escape a pursuing Spinosaurus when it is attacked and engaged in battle with a T-Rex.

It's in 2015's Jurassic World, however, that this starts getting truly eye-rolling. Chased relentlessly by Verizon's Indominus Rex, Claire Dearing actually resorts to summoning the T-Rex from the very first film to do battle for them and allow them to once again escape the island. Finally, we have Fallen Kingdom, where the T-Rex eats the antagonist and crushes the surviving Indominus bone, but the less said about that film, the better.
