9 Movie Spoilers Hidden In Posters

7. Maud's Fiery End - Saint Maud

Saint Maud
A24

In this excellent horror, after suffering through an undisclosed trauma, religious nut Maud becomes committed to her role as a carer and, in her own eyes, her role as a mouthpiece for the Lord.

So deluded is her belief that she imagines hearing God speaking directly to her, and consequently her 'righteous' actions escalate over the course of the story to the point where she completely loses herself to this false reality. And, after committing a murder (which she saw as vanquishing a demon), she heads out to the beach to show her holiness to everyone.

In the final scene Maud pours gasoline over herself, and radiates an angelic aura before sprouting wings. Suddenly, we smash cut to what's really happening, which is Maud burning alive.

Though not outright spoiled by the posters, this massive moment was smartly teased and foreshadowed in much of the marketing. A lot of the one-sheets show Maud in her final attire - her holy gown - while another gorgeous minimalist effort highlights Maud's face, with her flowing hair evoking flames.

They didn't give anything away beforehand, but can be appreciated even more once you know their deeper meaning.
