9 Movie Spoilers Hidden In Posters
6. What's Outside? - 10 Cloverfield Lane
10 Cloverfield Lane was a huge surprise. A quasi-sequel to the original monster movie, the spin-off's only similarity was its commitment to mystery when it came to the marketing and story. Going in fans knew very little about what the film actually was, and that uncertainty was actually central to the sequel's narrative.
See, the flick follows Michelle, as she wakes up in some dude's underground bunker after suffering a car accident. This man, Howard, tells her he rescued her and informs her that essentially the world outside is ending, and the two of them can't leave the safety of the bunker lest they all die.
The thing is, Howard isn't the most reliable of fellas, and throughout the flick the viewer and Michelle both question his motives and whether what he's saying about the outside world is even true. It turns out to be a bit of both in the end: Howard is absolutely up to no good, but he was right about the outside being dangerous, as it turns out that aliens really have invaded.
The second part is saved for the very final reel of the movie and pays off all the suspense previously. Naturally, then, the shot of Michelle out the bunker and running from an alien spacecraft was slapped on this international poster, ruining the whole mystery.
