9 Movie Villains So Stupid They Caused Their Own Deaths

5. Hydell Failed To Plan Ahead (At All) - Lockout

At this point Lockout will probably be best remembered for the lawsuit John Carpenter brought against its makers, claiming they ripped off his film Escape From New York. The courts agreed with him. That aside it€™s an entertaining enough romp, with Joseph Gilgun€™s unhinged performance as the villainous Hydell being the highlight. Hydell is the leader of a gang of convicts who take over a space prison, using the President€™s daughter as a bargaining hostage. They might have all survived too, if Hydell wasn€™t a volatile psychopath and rapist constantly making things worse for himself and for them. He kills hostages and negotiators just for fun, stabs his own brother to death when he tries to stop him attacking the daughter and even tries to kill her despite knowing it will result in his own death. Which is the end result, as he€™s left to die on the space station when the marines bomb it. Next time he should exercise more impulse control. The daughter escapes with hunky Guy Pearce, so it€™s a happy ending for all. Especially John Carpenter's bank account.
