4. Bob Kelly - Runaway Bride
A troubled production for a movie doesn't necessarily mean there'll be a bad outcome, but it never builds audience hopes. And the occasional successes - the likes of Apocalypse Now and Chinatown had tortuous journeys to the screen, but ended up being flat-out masterpieces - only serve to make those that don't work out all the more disappointing. Runaway Bride is a generic rom-com starring the woefully over-rated Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, but because it look over a decade to go from initial conception to the big screen there's a real sense of disappointment to the whole thing. Over those years it feels like all of Hollywood was considered to play a part - everyone, from Harrison Ford to Sandra Bullock was attached at one point or another. Ben Affleck was once mooted for the role of Bob, the fourth fiancé for Robert's Maggie, who has left each of the previous three on their intended wedding day. Given how bland the whole thing is, we can't say we're too upset to see Christopher Meloni play the part; there's nothing Affleck could have done to save the film.
