9 Movies From 2016 That Could Make A Billion Dollars

6. X-Men: Apocalypse

Estimated Box Office Gross: $1 Billion The world seems to love the X-Men franchise a lot more than you might think; as a franchise, it's often thought to be a lot less profitable than the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and yet X-Men: Days Of Future Past - released back in 2014 - pulled in a super impressive $748 million. Its sequel, the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past, is set for release in 2016, and there's no reason why it won't be the first movie in the series to go over a billion. Think on it: it's likely going to be the biggest X-Men movie ever with a huge, apocalyptic villain at the helm (can you guess his name?) and a massive time frame spanning thousands of years. Then there's the all-star cast, featuring the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicolas Hoult and Rose Byrne. It's also being hyped up by 20th Century Fox as something of a huge event, which seems to be genuinely resonating: the marketing campaign, hinged on slowly revealing small production aspects, is only serving to enhance the excitement levels. The only downside? This time, there's no Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen to be seen. But, hopefully the momentum of the marketing (mixed with the world's current obsession with all things superhero) will result in this being the first billion dollar X-Men film.
