9 Movies From 2016 That Could Make A Billion Dollars

4. Independence Day: Resurgence

Estimated Box Office Gross: $1 Billion Who thought that there would actually be another Independence Day? Even after all the rumours and speculation and even the actual announcement, there was still a sense that it wasn't going to happen; not really. That the studio would fail to commit to the idea, or the right people wouldn't get involved. But it is happening, people. It's confirmed and shooting now. Jeff Goldblum is coming back to the big screen, bringing Bill Pullman with him (sorry guys: no Will Smith this time around, though - a bit of a shame, that). It's easy to forget how huge the first Independence Day was - it grossed a whopping $817 million on its release back in 1996; an impressive feat for a non-franchise film. Now, consider that a sequel - belated as it is - is bound to gross at least that amount next year. If something like Transformers: Age Of Extinction - a terrible film, no matter how you look at it - can gross over a billion dollars at the box office (and is similar in theme and execution), not to mention fellow nostalgia property Jurassic World's recent successes, there's no reason why Resurgence can't either. Especially if it captures the giddy, '90s fun of the original film.
