9 Movies That End Without Solving A Major Problem

6. The Law System Is Still Shattered - Judge Dredd

Wizard Of Oz Toto
Hollywood Pictures

Ah, Judge Dredd. While Stallone certainly had the chin of Mega City One’s favourite fascist lawman, he didn’t understand what made the character work. Like, at all. The movie around him wasn’t much better, and it turned the blackly funny comic into a generic action thriller.

The movie sees Dredd framed for murder by his evil twin brother (long story), who also wants to kill all the Judges in the city and replace them with clones. Around the midway point, he massacres most of the city's law enforcement - including the top brass - and it’s up to Dredd to punch him into submission before the clones hatch.

He succeeds in this task and returns to duty after being cleared of all crimes. He rides off into the city while triumphant music plays, seemingly obvious to the fact he’s one of only a handful of Judges left. The overpopulated, crime infested city will now probably tear itself apart, with no Judges to stand in their way.

Good work Dredd, I guess.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
