9 Movies That End Without Solving A Major Problem

2. The Zombie Problem Is Only Going To Get Worse - World War Z

Wizard Of Oz Toto

World War Z famously had lots of troublesome production issues, including the entire third act being reshot after the original ending didn’t work. That ending was meant to set up a trilogy, where Brad Pitt travels the globe while the zombie crisis continues to spiral out of control, all with the aim of returning to his family.

That ending was considered too dark, so a happier one replaced it. In the new version, Pitt realises the undead tend to avoid the sick or dying, and to test out a theory he injects him with a lethal disease. This camouflages him from the zombies, leading to the brilliant solution of countries the world over infecting themselves with contiguous diseases.

Ignoring the insane logistics of each country injecting their populations with dangerous sh*t – which has to be fairly difficult to organise – this solution also ignores the whole zombie crisis thing. Their numbers are still continuing to grow by the minute, and no proactive strategy is reached to tackle them.

This was to leave the door open for a sequel of course, but the movie still treats Pitt’s vaccine as a happy ending, when it's a dumb stall tactic at best.
