9 Movies To Watch If You Loved Squid Game

6. Nine Dead

Funhouse and Squid Game
New Line Cinema

As much as we dislike Jang Deok-su, Squid Game's resident douchebag, he is a fluffy bunny in comparison to some of the scumbags appearing in 9 Dead. Set in a room where nine people awake to find themselves shackled, trapped with a bunch of strangers, these strangers are tasked to find the connections between every single one of them. Every ten minutes until every missing link is found, our masked baddie will come in and kill someone.

It's the human instinct to feel bad for people in terrible situations, but as the identities of each of the nine are revealed and the links are unearthed we start to see that maybe this is just what some of them deserve. The game of who's who they're playing may be cruel and unfair, but unlike the Front Man we can't make ourselves feel bad about it.

Set in just one room, it lacks the visual intrigue that Squid Game has in abundance, but instead leans on its characters. The slow reveal of the story, the motivations and the outcome are so satisfying to watch that it's well worth the (delightfully efficient) run-time.
