There are Disney movies with more deaths than Training Day, despite it being set in the dark underbelly of a crime-ridden Los Angeles. Wrap your head around that.
As the title suggests, the film takes place over one day: One very eventful day in which seasoned detective Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) gives the younger Officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) a rough baptism in the world of undercover policing. Together they must navigate the violent streets and overcome adversaries of just about every variety. Including within their own team.
Despite the constant threat of death, it only strikes twice with one of the victims being Harris himself. Still, at least he got an Oscar for it.
