9 Movies With Way Too Many Plot Twists

4. The Village

James Bond Spectre
Touchstone Pictures

Audiences had already grown a bit weary of M. Night Shyamalan's twisty storytelling by the time The Village came out, and it didn’t help he film’s reveal was pretty weak. The story is apparently set in the 19th century, where an isolated village is under attack by mysterious creatures.

Except it isn’t; the village elders occasionally dress up to scare the others and keep them afraid of exploring the woods. When her boyfriend is stabbed a blind young woman is allowed to venture out alone to find medicine, only for her to get attacked by a creature. She fights it off, only to find the creature was the villager who attacked her lover earlier.

At the end, she climbs over a wall, and it’s revealed the movie is set in modern times. The logic of this reveal falls apart the second you think about it, and honestly feels like a twist just for the sake of having one.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
